D.I.Y WEDDING CAKE FAKE-OUT

Dummy wedding cakes, or as I like to call them, fake out cakes are becoming a huge wedding trend. Fake-out cake will allow you to have a big, fancy, overtop cake “look” without the cost!

The sky is the limit when creating your fake cake. You can add as many layers as you want, fondant, jewels, icing, ie..

Wait, What’s that?

A dummy wedding cake is an artificial cake made out of Styrofoam. It can vary in height, shape and layers and can be purchased for about $18 on Amazon. That’s right ladies and gents it’s only $18 on the Zon! This light weight cake option is sturdy and buildable, you can added fondant, jewelry, beads, icing, i.e. to your cake.

How To Create A Dummy Wedding Cake

Step 1: Purchase the dummy cake that you want, be sure to consider it’s height, width and number of layers.

Step 2: Using an X-Acto knife, cut out a slice of Styrofoam out of the bottom layer. Make sure it’s big enough to fit a real slice of cake in.

Step 3: Measure/cut and neatly place a piece of parchment paper inside of the cut out space. Make sure none of the paper is handing out.

Step 4: Carefully place your real cake slice in the cut out on top of the parchment paper

Step 5: add buttercream the the side of the cake that’s exposed

Step 6: Mead and Roll out your fondant out wide enough to cover your entire cake. Depending on the height of your cake you may need 2-3 boxes of fondant

Step 7: Smooth fondant on the top, the. Work the sides until you reach the bottom. If you haven’t worked with fondant watch a few YouTube videos before attempting this. The good news is you can’t ruin the cake, you may run through a few boxes of fondant though, lol.

Step 8: Cut away any left over fondant

Step 9: decorate your cake with flowers, brooches etc.
